Douro Valley Private Tour Reviews
We were referred to Jorge from Dreamkeeper, by our close friends Bill and Joanne, and we can’t thank them enough! He picked up, and dropped off, our group of 6 from 2 different hotels. So much better than trying to find and meet a tour group downtown!! Jorge has a lifetime of knowledge from living in the area (did I mention he was a champion Portuguese race car driver and published author?), and speaks impeccable English along with several other languages. He really is one of the most charming people you will ever meet. And he rearranged the schedule to match our stopping to smell the roses and take extensive pictures along the way.
The tour was amazing! We came to Porto at the end of February and the beginning of March, so it was not quite the busy season yet. Jorge found us a nice sunny day and we started our Douro Valley Tour with a stop at the town of Amarante. It turned out that the local weekly market was running that day, so we stopped and had a delightful trip through the vendors. So many cute things at great prices! Next stop was the beautiful church in the town, followed by breakfast treats and coffee at a local small cafe on a creek running through the town. The whole drive to the Douro Valley was so scenic with some of the leaves were just starting to show and some flowers in bloom. Really nice for the first of March.
When we got to the Douro Valley we started at the Quinta do Beijo winery, tasting several wines and ports. Both were great, and our host, Beatriz, was delightful and entertaining. After the tasting, anyone who wanted to crawl into a large genuine cask that they had, was allowed to do so. A snug fit to get into and even harder to get out of. Next we went to the small town of Sabrosa and had a marvelous lunch at Restaurante Tipico. Great things like wonderful steaks and fried potato peelings on a skewer and sausages with sides, and wine, and Flan for desert.
For the last part we were supposed to have another winery tasting and a boat cruise, but we had all been a little too leisurely, since we were enjoying ourselves so much. So, we chose the 1 hour river cruise over the second tasting and really loved it. To get to the boats, we zigzagged down the side of the mountain, stopping at a breathtaking viewpoint to take pictures. We felt like we made the right choice, as the boat ride was calm and leisurely and gave us a different view of the Douro Valley and the vineyards. On the way back to Porto, we took some of the scenic National Road 222 (NR222) dubbed “the most beautiful road in the world”.
Such an amazing tour and Jorge is absolutely the best! You will not be sorry you picked this once in a lifetime experience!!

Nous étions un groupe de 20 personnes dont 10 handicapés.
Avec Georges notre guide nous avons découvert les trésors de Porto, Aveiro, la vallée du Douro.. Ce fut un excellent séjour malgré les difficultés inhérentes aux handicapes de nos vacanciers qui circulent en fauteuils et malgré la méconnaissance des besoins dont à fait preuve notre voyagiste. Georges a su combler les manquements, il a su trouver des solutions sympathiques et prendre soin de notre groupe.
J’ai 23 ans d’expérience dans ce type de voyages et c’est le premier guide que je vois prendre part à la manipulation des personnes en fauteuils avec tant de soin.
Nous avons quitté le Portugal et surtout Georges avec beaucoup d’émotions et presque de regrets.

I cannot begin to tell you how much we enjoyed our day with George at Dreamkeepers! It was an absolute highlight of our trip. George is a dapper gentleman, who knows the area inside and out. He clearly has great, personal relationships with the places we toured, which made each moment that much more special. We felt very safe and very comfortable the whole day. George picked us up in his Mercedes sedan from our Quinta in the Douro Valley, took us to two wineries with tastings, a phenomenal typical Portuguese lunch, and on a robalo boat along the river before returning us to our Quinta.
George even recommended a stellar restaurant for us for our last night in Porto, and went so far as to arrange reservations for us. What a treat. George is a wealth of knowledge and an absolute joy to spend the day with. I feel so fortunate that our paths crossed. I feel like we met a new friend!

Lovely wine tour - we had the best time! We really enjoyed the small group tour - our driver Jorge was incredibly kind and welcoming, and provided lots of wonderful information regarding the local culture and small towns. Amarante was a beautiful sight to see, and Jorge was very knowledgeable. The wineries themselves were lovely to see and experience, and the every section of the tour felt seamless and smooth, the food and wines were exquisite! I've already recommended it to all of my friends and family! Thank you!

We had an incredible day exploring the Douro Valley with Jorge. We were celebrating 20 years of friendship, and he made the experience truly special.
From start to finish, the tour was comfortable, relaxed, and perfectly paced. Jorge shared fascinating information about the region, its history, and its wines, making every stop both enjoyable and informative.
What really set him apart, though, was his exceptional kindness. We accidentally left an item behind at one of the wineries, and Jorge went above and beyond to help us recover it. His willingness to assist and genuine care will always be remembered with gratitude.

What an amazing day with lovely strangers who became friends, including our incredibly knowledgeable guide Jorge. Everything went smoothly with transportation but it’s a tight fit for 8 people in the van. Most beautiful wineries and wine region, absolutely stunning. Wine, port and olive oil tastes were delicious, lunch was fantastic, guide was always there when you needed him but never obtrusive. I especially enjoyed getting to know, drink and dine with my fellow tourists and guide. Truly memorable experience.

In summary: A wonderful day. Jorge picked us up on time at our hotel and drove us to the starting point of our ECO tour. On the way he gave us various facts about Portugal and the surrounding area. In a small pretty village he dropped us off and showed us the route for our hike. Afterwards we explored the path ourselves and experienced a beautiful landscape. The path is relatively flat and shaded most of the time. There are many animals and plants to discover on the way and also one or the other small waterfall can be found. After 6 kilometers Jorge was waiting for us with a huge picnic, there were local delicacies, many even homemade and afterwards we jumped into the river to cool down. It was wonderful and Jorge was a wonderful guide. Afterwards, Jorge drove us back to Porto through some beautiful countryside and we also had a coffee on the way. He really cares about giving a unique beautiful experience. We can only recommend it!
